The McPherson MG 4.5 XP
Serial # 1202

The beautifully crafted guitar is shelled with
flamed walnut and topped with Carpathian red spruce.
Carpathian spruce is harvested from trees in
the Caucasus and Carpathian mountains that surround the Black Sea. Visually,
this tonewood has wider grain than many other European spruces, with
a creamy white overall colour and moderately prominent spring growth
lines. Carpathian spruce tops have an excellent strength-to-weight ratio
with a glassy tap tone that ultimately translates into many of the sonic
properties that Adirondack spruce brings to the table ... excellent
definition & clarity, good complexity in the overtone layers but
most of all, a very warm core to the note fundamental!
Maple and walnut tend to be more acoustically transparent than other
tonewoods, due to a low velocity of sound and a high degree of internal
damping. That is to say that they allow tonal characteristics of the
top to be heard without the addition of extraneous coloration and may
even serve to attenuate some of the overtones emanating from the top.
